The person behind Firefly Designs
I'm Melodie, a self-taught web and brand designer based in Timmins. I live on a farm with more animals than is probably reasonable, and I've always been happiest when I'm making something.
I've been tinkering with websites since the Piczo, Neopets and MySpace days, building little pages purely for the love of it. I grew up around family who ran their own businesses, so I know how much a good website can change everything for a brand.
I started Firefly Designs to help people stand out in a small, competitive town, and to uplift Northern Ontario along the way.
The name Firefly came from the first time we stepped onto this farm. There were thousands of fireflies lit up across the field, and it just stuck.

From idea to online in four steps

Pick your favourite
I design 3 or 4 mockups of your site in different styles, free. Pick one, combine pieces from a few, or tell me what to change.
I build it
Your site comes together with your photos, your words, and your style. You see it at every step along the way.
You go live
I launch the site, set up your domain, and show you how everything works.

How long does a website take? ▾
Most sites go from first chat to live in about 2-3 weeks. A one-page Starter site can be quicker. You'll see your first mockups within the first few days, so you'll know early where it's headed.
What do I need to have ready? ▾
Honestly? Nothing. If you have photos, a logo, or words you like, great, send them along. If you don't, we start with a chat about your business and I handle the rest.
What if I don't like the design? ▾
You never commit to something you haven't seen. The first mockups are free, and every package includes revision rounds. We keep adjusting until it feels right.
Who owns the website and domain? ▾
You do. Your domain is registered in your own account, in your name. If you ever want to take the site somewhere else, it's yours.
Do I need to know anything technical? ▾
No. That's the whole point of hiring me. I set up the domain, hosting and email, and show you how everything works in plain words.
How does payment work? ▾
A 50% deposit gets your project started, and the balance is due when your site goes live. You approve the final price before any work begins, so there are no surprises and no hidden fees.
Do you only work with businesses near Timmins? ▾
I'm based in Timmins and love working with local businesses in Porcupine, Schumacher, South Porcupine, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane and Kapuskasing, but I build for small businesses anywhere in Canada. Everything happens over email, calls or texts, whatever suits you.
